Address Poisoning / Dust Attack
Security● Common
Sending tiny amounts of bitcoin to many addresses to: track spending patterns when dust is consolidated, identify wallet clusters, or plant attacker-controlled addresses in transaction history hoping victims accidentally reuse them.
Technical Notes
Attack: send dust from address similar to victim's (same prefix/suffix). Victim copies wrong address from history. Prevention: always use fresh addresses, don't consolidate unknown dust, verify full address. Address book/labels help avoid confusion.
