A protocol assigning serial numbers to individual satoshis based on their order of creation, enabling NFT-like functionality on Bitcoin. Inscriptions embed arbitrary data (images, text, code) in witness data of Taproot transactions, permanently stored on-chain.
Technical Notes
Ordinal numbers assigned by: subsidy sats numbered by block height, then tx index, then output index. Inscriptions use envelope: OP_FALSE OP_IF ... OP_ENDIF in Tapscript. Content-type and data pushed as separate chunks. Controversial due to block space usage.
