Gap Limit
Wallets● Common

The number of consecutive unused addresses a wallet scans before stopping discovery. Standard is 20. Prevents infinite scanning while allowing for skipped addresses. Important for wallet recovery and import.

Technical Notes

BIP-44 specifies gap limit of 20. Problem: if >20 addresses skipped, funds appear missing. Solutions: increase gap limit, export/import address indexes, manual rescan. Descriptor wallets track derivation range explicitly.
