The set of valid unconfirmed transactions waiting to be included in a block. Each node maintains its own mempool with configurable size limits. Miners select transactions from the mempool based on fee rates. Transactions may be evicted if mempool fills up.
Technical Notes
Default max size: 300 MB. Transactions sorted by ancestor feerate for mining. Min relay fee: 1 sat/vB. Mempool not consensus-critical; nodes may have different views. RBF allows replacing transactions. Typical clear time: minutes to hours depending on fees.
