A soft fork activation mechanism used for Taproot. Fast activation if 90% miner signal achieved, quick failure otherwise. Provides rapid signal without forcing contentious activation.
Technical Notes
3-month signaling window, 90% threshold per retarget period. If threshold met: lock-in, activate later. If timeout: failed, retry with different mechanism possible. Taproot: signaling May 2021, activated November 2021.
