Satoshi (sat)
Fundamentals● Common

The smallest unit of bitcoin, equal to 0.00000001 BTC (one hundred millionth). Named after Bitcoin's creator. Commonly used for pricing small transactions and Lightning payments. With Bitcoin at $100k, 1 sat ≈ $0.001.

Technical Notes

All amounts in the protocol are denominated in satoshis as integers. 1 BTC = 100,000,000 sats. Millisatoshis (msat) used in Lightning for finer granularity: 1 sat = 1000 msat. Common notation: 100k sats, 1M sats.
