A cooperative of miners who combine hashrate and share block rewards proportionally. Reduces variance: instead of rare large rewards, miners receive frequent small payments. Pool operator constructs block templates and distributes work to participants.
Technical Notes
Payment schemes: PPS (pay per share), PPLNS (pay per last N shares), FPPS (full pay per share including fees). Pool provides stratum server for work distribution. Centralization concern: top pools control majority hashrate. Stratum V2 enables decentralized block template construction.
