Difficulty Bomb
Mining● Common

A theoretical attack or event causing mining difficulty to spike or remain artificially high, making mining unprofitable and potentially stalling the chain. Bitcoin's difficulty adjustment (max 4× per epoch) and natural hashrate mobility make this unlikely.

Technical Notes

Scenario: massive hashrate leaves suddenly, blocks slow dramatically (up to 2 weeks per epoch at 4× slower). Self-correcting: difficulty drops after epoch. Unlike Ethereum's programmed 'difficulty bomb' for forcing upgrades. Bitcoin has no such intentional mechanism.
